Indian freestyle wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt’s London 2012 Olympic Bronze medal likely to be upgraded to Silver medal.According to Russian agency flowrestling.org, Besik Kudukhov of Russia, who won the Silver in the men’s 60 kg freestyle category at the London Games, has been found positive in a dope test conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist Kudukhov died in a car crash in 2013 in Southern Russia. The WADA had recently decided to retest samples from the Bejing 2008 Olympics and 2012 London games which returned with several positive results.
The samples of five wrestlers, including Russia’s Besik Kudukhov (60 kg) and Uzbekistan’s Artur Taymazov’s (120 kg),have tested positive for banned substances.Kudukhov is a silver medallist and Taymazon a gold-medal winner. They will lose their medals. The official confirmation will have to come from the United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee.
The 33-year-old Yogeshwar now will join wrestler Sushil Kumar and shooter Vijay Kumar as India’s Silver medalists from the London Olympics.
Yogeshwar tweeted earlier today to reveal that his Bronze has already been upgraded to Silver. Yogeshwar dedicated this to the nation.
